Kanjify ("the Service") is an iOS application that transforms user-supplied names into culturally aware Japanese kanji and related content. We respect your privacy and explain below how we collect, use, and protect information.
1. Information We Collect
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Input data | Name (latin alphabet), selected moods, optional comments, and—when using the anime-character feature—additional attributes such as gender or style. |
| In-app events | Generate/save/share actions, paywall impressions, purchase attempts, onboarding progress. |
| Device data | Device model, OS version, app version, locale, country code. |
| Purchase status | StoreKit transaction identifiers and purchase state (handled by Apple). We never store credit card information. |
| Technical logs | Crash reports, API error codes, audio playback failures. |
| Support requests | Contact details and inquiry text voluntarily provided via email or feedback forms. |
We do not collect government IDs, physical addresses, or persistent contact information within the standard app experience.
2. How We Use Data
- Provide and improve core functionality (kanji generation, pronunciation, anime character generation).
- Respond to support tickets and resolve billing issues.
- Analyze usage trends, run experiments, and optimize our App Store presence.
- Detect, investigate, and prevent abuse or technical incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations or respond to lawful requests from authorities.
Our lawful bases include performance of contract, legitimate interests, and legal compliance.
3. Sharing with Third Parties
| Partner | Purpose | Data Shared | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple (App Store, StoreKit, CrashReporter) | Payments, crash diagnostics | Purchase state, crash logs, device metadata | Subject to Apple's policies |
| Groq / other generation APIs | Kanji and character generation | Prompt data (name, moods, attributes) | Provider may change in the future |
| Analytics vendors (future) | Usage analytics (pseudonymized) | Event names, timestamps, device metadata | We will disclose details and opt-out options before rollout |
| Support tools | Handling user inquiries | Information voluntarily submitted | If we adopt services such as Zendesk, we will notify users |
We require confidentiality, access controls, and data-processing agreements with all vendors.
4. Retention
- Device-stored history/favorites remain until you delete them.
- Generation logs are retained for up to 90 days, then deleted or anonymized.
- Purchase receipts are stored only as long as Apple requires for validation.
- Support inquiries are deleted within one year after resolution.
5. Security
- All network traffic uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
- Data at rest resides in iOS-encrypted storage or tightly controlled cloud services.
- We enforce least-privilege access, maintain audit logs, and review security regularly.
6. Your Rights
- Request deletion or stop processing via in-app settings or the in-app inquiry form.
- Users in jurisdictions such as the EU (GDPR) or California (CCPA) may exercise rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, or object to processing.
- We respond within a reasonable timeframe and verify identity where required.
7. International Transfers
Data may be processed in Japan, the United States, or other countries where we or our partners operate. When required, we implement appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not targeted at children under 13. If we learn that a child has provided personal data, we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app or on our website. Please review the latest version before using the Service.
10. Contact
Questions or privacy requests can be submitted through the in-app inquiry form. We will respond as soon as reasonably possible.
